Summary

When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.

Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success—his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family—Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.

Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you forever.

Review

You can expect to find within the pages of this book a flawless rendering of the internal, psychological struggles of a novice submissive in a BDSM relationship. Anastasia Steele is innocent of sexual relationships, let alone BDSM relationships. E L James captures perfectly her fears, confusions, insecurities, and internal conflicts as she deals with falling in first love with a man who epitomizes the meaning of dominant.

You shall discover within this novel two of the most well-thought-out and in-depth characters. The hero Christian Grey admits that he is “Fifty shades of Fu*#&ed up,” which makes you want to delve in and learn about each of those fifty shades. The heroine Anastasia Steele is a study in contradictions: smart but naïve, innocent yet sensual, independent yet submissive, and these paradoxes keep the reader captivated and eager to learn more.

It is my favourite kind of story. Do you know what I mean it is so intense that the characters get so far under your skin that you can't stand to be away from them for any length of time. Well, that was me while reading this book,

I am a total sucker for the tortured hero and you would be hard-pressed to find a hero more tortured than our own beloved Christian Grey. That said, the fact that he is a gazillionaire at age 27 is nothing to shake a stick at! Christian's intensity and focus is what really captured me in all this, I keep having to remind myself how old he is. The chemistry between Anastasia & Christian is just off the friggin' charts, I swear at times I could feel it coming right off the pages, from the moment she 'fell' into his office!!

I really enjoyed the BDSM element, it wasn't necessarily heavy but intense, especially listening to Christian tell Ana that he wanted to hurt her and why. When he said he had never had to explain it before and knew he wasn't explaining well just melted my heart. There is such a vulnerable, sweet boy underneath that gorgeous domineering man!

I would not say Fifty Shades is erotica, it's more romance that has lots of hot sex in, almost every other chapter, and there are 26 chapters. I first read Fifty Shades when I was 12/13 it was when I believe all of the books were out. Everywhere has gone crazy for them, like on holiday round the pool you saw women reading Fifty Shades of Grey etc in various different languages. Obviously, when I first read it I did not completely understand but now I am older it is like woo! It is steamy in here.

After doing some research apparently, this book was originally a Twilight Fan Fiction, which I won't lie I loved! But don't let that put you off, Fifty Shades isn't remotely Twilight-esque. Yes, there are similarities; Continental US, Sexy rich guy, shy naive girl, but that's about as Twilight as it gets. Fifty Shades is in a whole other world of its own.

I liked Ana from the first moment, she isn't whiny. I don't like whiny heroines. She's strong-willed yet innocent in most things. Throughout the book, Ana grows and when she meets Christian, she becomes stubborn and determined to figure out this obscenely rich with a dark secret. He doesn't like to be touched, but that doesn't stop Ana, from trying to get him to allow her to touch him. Christian, is albeit, a little stalker-ish, but he makes up for it in 'other' ways. And in the end, Christian is completely and utterly swoon-worthy. Trust me on this. There were times I wanted to punch him, a sometimes I was like 'UGH! You absolute control freak!' but as you'll soon find out, his control freak-ness comes with the lifestyle that he lives behind his closed apartment doors.

Anyway, I don't regret reading this book at all. I think everyone, 18 and over should read this. It's funny, sexy, hot and it has it all. Unlike most 'Erotica' novels, this one has a plot, romance and a story. It's not a book you'll likely forget anytime soon. And if you don't fall for Christian, then there is something seriously wrong with you. Go read it, you won't regret it.

E.L James is just a genius at depicting emotions, understanding relationships, and communicating what is going on in her characters’ minds. The depth to which the characters are taken and described is beyond words. A wonderful blend of hot, hot, hot kinky f***kery and a deep emotional journey and love story.
