Summary
Rowan
I’m in the business of creating fairy tales. Theme parks. Production companies. Five-star hotels. Everything could be all mine if I renovated Dreamland.
My initial idea of hiring Zahra was good in theory, but then I kissed her. Things spiraled out of control once I texted her using an alias.
By the time I realized where I went wrong, it was too late. People like me don’t get happy endings. Not when we’re destined to ruin them.
Zahra
After submitting a drunk proposal criticizing Dreamland’s most expensive ride, I should have been fired.
Instead, Rowan Kane offered me a dream job. The catch? I had to work for the most difficult boss I’d ever met. Rowan was rude and completely off-limits, but my heart didn’t care. At least not until I discovered his secret. It was time to teach the billionaire that money couldn’t fix everything. Especially not us.
Review
This book had my toes curling and lungs empty. It was a perfect mix of grumpy and sunshine. If you like the grumpy/sunshine trope, workplace romance, boss/employee dynamic, forced proximity, and billionaire romance, then this story is 100% for you!
The storyline was interesting with a few twists, the romance was sweet and incredibly sexy, there's so much tension and many laugh-out-loud moments. The entire idea of Dreamland was amazing, and the office scenes especially were my favourite. I adored how their struggles were mirrored in their new relationship through fear and how both conquered them by helping each other. Dreamland made me want to jump on a plane and go to Disney.
Rowan and Zahra are the ultimate grumpy/sunshine pair! Zahra is a freaking ray of sunshine and the kindest person you'll ever meet, Zahra is perfect all round, she is so confident and strong, she is kind and overall just a ray of sunshine. She was a well rounded and deep character. Zahra is funny and caring.
Whereas Rowan is pragmatic and has closed his heart to love because of the pain one can endure if that love is lost. So to keep people at distance, he is cold and calculating but comes off as a total a$$hole. He tries his best to ignore Zahra but he's like a moth to a flame, he can't stay away from the light. There's so much tension between these two, they're like a modern day Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet!
The banter was phenomenal. Zahra and Rowan have so much chemistry that when they're fighting or trying to hide their feelings for each other, the conversation is so charged! Rowan is a jerk but Zahra's got some bite as well. The spice was hot! There was so much sexual tension between Rowan and Zahra, so when they get together, it's just explosive! And their banter during sex makes things even spicier! I love that Lauren Asher had Zahra fall in love first but made Rowan fall harder. I adored how Lauren Asher did it so Zahra and Rowan's traits cancelled each other out, how they thaw and breakdown each other's walls.
Loved that this book addressed some heavier topics while also remaining lighthearted and sweet. Both Rowan and Zahra carry emotional scars from their past and throughout the story, we see them grow, help each other overcome their fears, and discover who they are/what they want. I was so happy seeing realistic disability representation in this book. Zahra's sister, Ani, has Down syndrome and works at the park with the rest of her family. I love how Zahra's mentorship program was introduced and the friendship Ani and Rowan developed through it. Ani is by far my favourite side character because she tells it how it is and doesn't let Rowan get away with anything.
Overall, The Fine Print is a fantastic contemporary romance that's become an instant favorite! Rowan and Zahra are wonderful characters who you love together and apart. And even though they are complete opposites, they're perfect for each other. I love their chemistry, the romance, the spice, and the real growth each character undergoes throughout this story. I will recommend this to everyone I know.
