Summary

She can never be his, but he's taking her anyway. Stoic, broody, and arrogant, elite bodyguard Rhys Larsen has two rules: 1) Protect his clients at all costs and 2) Do not become emotionally involved. Ever. He has never once been tempted to break those rules until her.

Bridget von Ascheberg. A princess with a stubborn streak that matches his own and a hidden fire that reduces his rules to ash. She’s nothing he expected and everything he never knew he needed. Day by day, inch by inch, she breaks down his defences until he’s faced with a truth he can no longer deny: he swore an oath to protect her, but all he wants is to ruin her. Take her; she’s his. His princess. His forbidden fruit. His every depraved fantasy.

Regal, strong-willed, and bound by the chains of duty, Princess Bridget dreams of the freedom to live and love as she chooses. But when her brother abdicates, she’s suddenly faced with the prospect of a loveless, politically expedient marriage and a throne she never wanted. And as she navigates the intricacies; and treacheries of her new role, she must also hide her desire for a man she can’t have.

Her bodyguard. Her protector. Her ultimate ruin. Unexpected and forbidden, theirs is a love that could destroy a kingdom; and doom them both.

Review

Twisted Games is a slow to medium burn contemporary royal bodyguard romance. I found this book truly magical, it was the perfect fairytale love story, and I adored every second of it. I never had a moment where I felt bored and was hooked. Another one of Ana Huang's books which I finished in less than 24 hours. This is a forbidden love story between a princess and her bodyguard. There is also a ten-year age gap.

This story follows Princess Bridget von Ascheberg of Eldorra and Rhys, her bodyguard. Rhys is closed off and refuses to become emotionally involved with his clients. The chemistry and the passion between Bridget and Rhys were mind-blowing; they could not stay away from each other no matter the consequences. The book is filled with steamy scenes and so much tension between Rhys and Bridget, which Ana Huang wrote phenomenally.

Bridget has been in the spotlight a lot of the time; she has taken pleasure where she can find it, quiet moments of anonymity with her college friends and at the animal shelter, and she volunteers. But when her brother abdicates for love, her life changes drastically. Bridget must prepare to rule Eldorra while hiding her forbidden romance with Rhys. From all their secret looks and forbidden touches, Bridget realises it is harder to stop herself from falling in love with Rhys.

Rhys is the typical protective alpha male, giving off the 'touch her and I will kill you' vibes. Rhys would do anything and everything to protect Bridget, and I adored it to see this stoic man melt for his princess. Rhys has a sad past that stops him from letting anyone in, and it was beautiful watching Bridget break down his walls. I adore how she and Rhys butt head over his assertiveness and tell her constantly what to do. But the chemistry between them always simmers just below the surface, and the more time they spend together, the more they realise that they are meant to be.

I'm beyond excited for the next book in the series because Ana Huang truly creates the best romances and is one of my favourite authors.
